Once there, you attempt the doorknob. Surprisingly, it's unlocked. There's a slightly terrified yelp from inside. Has to be a human judging by the volume.

It was a woman, you don't dare enter until she allows. She sounds sick.
"I.. mean no harm, Ma'am. I frankly have no idea where I am, or who I am at this time."
?:"W-well uh.. if you mean no harm.. Come on in."

You enter the Cabin, it was run down, but kept somewhat decently. It was two stories. The bottom held the living, the kitchen, and the top held the bedroom. there was a large barely kindled furnace in the center of the back wall.
The Woman was up on the second level, peering down at you. Her hair was a cherry Red, lovely color. Rare to actually be natural.
Sam:"I-Im Samantha. I've been here for.." She counted her fingers. "Three weeks.'
"Seriously? Wow."

Meet Samantha, the only Living Human for miles. She'll act as the 'Save' system for Shards (And only Love interest should you forums decide.)
Samantha is a Journalist, so she'll write down the events of the current day. If you die, you will return to the Cabin after the save. But, events from there on will be randomized again, thus preventing meta-ing. And the Cabin you're in, will be the main Hub for Shards.
Sam can also provide some medical support, as long as you have the required materials, of course.

At the Cabin, (once blueprints / knowledge of the blueprints is known) you may customize and add storage, Workbenches, better furnaces, etc. however, you cannot craft high tech stuff here. So no building a GPS from two cans and a nuclear rod. Only primitive stuff.

Another thing, you don't have to worry too much about keeping Samantha alive, She'll forage around the immediate area for edible plants, fresh corpses, eggs, etc. Including firewood for the furnace.

Weaponry; You can choose to strike an area of a foe, and by random chance ( a dice ), you will either hit, miss, get parry'd (Melee only) or inflict a (rare) severing of said part.

Remember, for most hostiles, the Head, Jugular, vital organs and veins, are the weak points.
What now? Do we search more, get to know Sam better? What?

You examine around the cabin. There is no gun.

However, there are howls outside, which are followed by a frightening.. roar?

After a few minutes, there is the sounds of a animal shrieking in pain right outside, along with large footsteps.

You decide to look out the window.


You're very frightened to see such a large predator standing outside. It appears to be a dinosaur, yet covered in feathers and Jet-black in coloration. Perhaps it is a unknown species that lives here wherever we are?

Upon looking at it a bit more as it ate, you realize it matches the description of a Cryptid, the Partridge Creek Beast. A supposed living Dinosaur. Along with the finding of this cryptid, you realize what part of the world you're in. Canada. Or at-least, you think so.

There are things out there that top Wolves, Bears, and even eagles. In Shards, you'll have to face off against a Cryptid, the Partridge Creek Beast. A Living Dinosaur.

A Mere knife wouldn't take down this monster. You'll need to actively hunt for better and better weapons and Ammunition to take down such a ferocious beast.
