Author Topic: Why is racism still relevant.  (Read 5005 times)

Here we go again, throwing around the word "racism" like a loving football. Everyone who acknowledges the concept of race is a tribal. Someone out there a couple hundred years ago just decided to start misusing "tribal" because people didn't agree with them and it stuck and now everyone thinks its an actual term for racial prejudice.

Probably one of the kids he forgeted.

it definitely is a shame that racism is still a problem, even worse that we cant simply just solve it. it has to slowly be worn out with time, and even that never will destroy it forever. (look at loveism for example)
i dont agree with riots and usually not all protests but if people get driven to that then it's obvious that in their area the problem is still huge, and we have to specifically focus on those areas as opposed to a widespread and equal coverage, so to speak.
but lets not blur the line on what is and isnt tribal. if your white neighbor's 12 y/o kid is saying "whats up brother" to his friend, that usually doesn't mean he is a tribal, just incredibly stupid.

because everyone wants one group or type of people to blame all of their problems on when they could just go on with their lives not worrying about how different everyone else is

one of my black friends (high-iq anarchist) who was arguing about racism with another one of my black friends (stereotypical soundcloud rapper) had explained that each race is more predisposed to behave a certain way, and how they're raised can amplify or suppress those traits or something like that. it made sense tho. not that he was defending racism but more rather explaining why it makes sense for a cop to be more on-edge around black people living in the hood

anyways the only way that racism directly exists in my life is through harmless jokes that everyone laughs at

We had latinos, blacks, whites, multiple groups of people attending the same school, Bittburg Elementary School. ... It wasn't much different when i moved to Arkansas, which is ironic again because it's the deep-ish part of the south
It's possibly because there was so much diversity (and that it would seem to be taken for granted) that there wasn't racism.  If it's all one race and suddenly someone different shows up, there's much more likely to be a reaction you could call tribal.

The trick is to get diversity organically; if you try to force it, it'll inevitably backfire.  As far as I'm concerned, the way to do that is to be a decent person and trust that the rest will take care of itself, because there's not much more you can do.

i don't have a problem with blacks, i've got a problem with mondays
i don't have a problem with mexicans, i've got a problem with spics
i don't have a problem with jews, i've got a problem with kikes

I am black and I don't really care if someone calls me a "monday".  Hell, my white friend used jokes about my skin color all the time and even sometime jokingly calls me the N word.

Next time read the loving OP before posting.

i get your meme, but jokes aside, if someone is looking excuses to call someone a slur, they're probably tribal/prejudiced.
