I've had issues in the past with sites opening links in new tabs/windows, usually sketchy ones, and adblock isn't able to stop it
Anyone have any solutions?

uBlock origin works well for me, started using it instead of adblock plus.
EDIT: Doesn't your browser have a setting to block pop-ups?

I use this combo on chrome:

AdBlock
AdBlock Plus
TamperMonkey
  -->Anti-Adblock Killer userscript
  -->noScript userscript
