Author Topic: took a visit to the ER tonight  (Read 1709 times)

I'm allergic to peanuts
if I touch them, I get a serious reaction, worse if I eat them

I was enjoying Friday night on campus and I went to the student-run café to get a milkshake
whenever I go to the café I always decide at the counter what I'm getting (yes I'm that guy)
this time the barista (idk if that's the right word) suggested I get a special type of milkshake: apple pie flavor
I confirmed with him there were, beyond reasonable doubt, no peanuts in the shake (it had graham cracker bits on it) and went back to the dorm drinking it all up

so I'm on Deceased Box's Fort WarZ, building my fort alone, when my chest starts to burn
same with my throat
after 15 or 30 minutes of that I start coughing badly
then the rashes appeared on my palms
then came the hives
and now I'm in the ER

so yeah
in the ER for having an allergic reaction to something I'm not allergic to
best feeling especially since they have to watch me till at least 7:00 in the morning
ugh

a little bit yeah
stuff still happened

I mean, certainly nowhere as bad as your reaction, but I missed working this entire week because of a misdiagnosis; got a bit of the sniffles and sore throat last Friday and when the over-the-counter cold medicine didn't suffice, went to the doc who prescribed me some simple antibiotics. When those caused me to have a night of no sleep and throwing up violently, she realised she gave me the wrong medication and now has me on some heavier-strength antibiotics (specifically to try and pull back the effects of my sinusitis) and some antivirals (my doc reckons I have Influenza, so that's supposed to deal with the main condition).

Unfortunately, doc's not exactly the brightest and forgot (no matter how much I've told her) that I don't do pills; thankfully the pharmacist rocks and helped me figure out how to take these pills without swallowing (not up the arse you cunts).

Offtopic but I have the same problem where I cannot take pills whatsoever unless if I chew them. What is the method she taught you on how to take pills without swallowing them? I'm just really curious

Back ontopic, sorry to hear about what you went through and I hope you'll get better soon

Mix the contents with honey and down that.

The antivirals are one of those capsules that can be opened, so you can just mix the powder directly into the honey. For the antibiotics, which are just one of those hard pills, I like to break them up in the mouth, and just as the bitterness begins to hit, I take a hit of honey, try and get all the pill into the honey and swallow that down.

Of course, most medication is forgetin' bitter which is why it's much better when swallowed, but I don't have to take this stuff much longer.

Huh, I've actually never thought of doing this and wow it seems so simple. For the past year now I've just resorted to chewing the pills straight up with a drink, which taste like hell but I've gotten used to it, but it's still horrible and iirc not all pills work this way

Thanks for telling me c:

Might try those methods when I take medicine when I get my next cold. It's annoying as forget trying to swallow bitter medicine cause it closes my throat which makes it much harder for it to go down.

BE AWARE! I am not a medical professional and I got lucky; the antiviral had these instructions included, and my pharmacist called the manufacturer of the antibiotic to check that the method would work (to which they responded "no idea lol, try it anyway"). Always check with your doctor/pharmacist first if possible, and if there's any documentation/leaflets with the pills, read that. The powder is often encased for more reasons than "it's very bitter".

UPDATE: I'm absolutely okay and I'm going to get out of here in a few minutes

Allergic to peanuts?
Hah weak, im allergic from the loving sun
Life is great

Erm guys, take care when swallowing a pill with honey. Honey can actually modify the pill in a less serious way than alcohol and coffee.

i'm allergic to fire ants

it's not that bad of an allergic reaction, it just forms hives
