Author Topic: should cyberbulling/bullying be a criminal offense?  (Read 5054 times)

only if they intentionally incite physical harm like Self Delete or a mass shooting or something

Depends.
If they call them a friend and they want to commit Self Delete because of one person calling them a friend that's natural selection.
If they intentionally Drive people to consider Self Delete then probably.

If you say mean things then no, if someone kills themselves over someone saying mean things then no, but if they say a call to action then thats where the line is.

Also, I'm not sure why, but it seems like Mr. Unicode has really grown into a bit of a prick in his last few posts.

How so?

even if it leads to something like Self Delete cyberbullying should not be a criminal offense
blocking tools exist on almost every platform

bullying still shouldn't be a criminal offense but their loving parents should goddamn act like parents

"You're a loving friend and nobody loves you" seems like it shouldn't be illegal

"Please remember to consider bleach as an alternative" seems like something that could get someone in trouble.

that's just a less direct way of telling someone to kill themselves and there's nothing worth punishing there lol

It's heavily dependent on what's being done by the offender. Just saying words is definitely not grounds for criminal offense. Take the forums for example. However.. Things like doxs should be somewhere nearer to that of a criminal offense. It's a heavy invasion of privacy. Nowadays, technology allows people to get an insane amount of information about a person, and can end up ruining someone's life because of it. See: SJWs contacting people's employers to get them fired, people sending SWAT teams to other people's houses that could potentially end negatively or get someone hurt (or distract SWAT teams from real situations).
If it's just words, no, but if the offender is actively searching the other person's personal information out, distributing it with the intent of harm, and doing harmful things with that information, yes.

there are already legal lines to cross before things become a crime. like death threats, or physical interactions.
online or not, simply being mean should not be a crime.

who gets to dictate what is cyberbullying and what isn't

who gets to dictate what is cyberbullying and what isn't
The judge. Kind of like every other criminal case...

If you are a pusillanimous individual, the internet is not for you. Cool Kidz Only :cookieMonster:

the site should deal with it within their own punishments

only if it drives someone to homicide or Self Delete which would be like secondhand homicide either way

only if it drives someone to homicide or Self Delete which would be like secondhand homicide either way

but thats still vague. some soft pusillanimous individual kid can kill himself over being called a noob.
