Author Topic: should a government official be purged if their corruption benefits everyone  (Read 4354 times)

if they're magically making the country vastly greater, like removing all debt, they shouldn't be purged. they're helping the country, not hurting it

If their corruption really does benefit everyone, then you could probably debate whether they're actually even corrupt.

sure it's relevant. very few republican stances involve benefiting everyone. they generally prefer to benefit rich straight white guys, and pretty much forget anyone else exists (or, often, punish them for existing in a way they don't agree with). take the opposition to gay marriage, for example. there is literally no way, through any stretch of the imagination, that you could genuinely think that helps everyone
This is one of the most uneducated, bigoted things I have ever heard.

Republicans stand for individual freedom, government intervention only when necessary, free enterprise, fiscal responsibility within the government, states' rights, and protecting freedom and rights for Americans before doing so for other countries. They do not forget that people besides rich straight white guys exist or punish people for existing in ways they don't agree with. Many black, gay, female, Muslim, etc. people are in the Republican party because it is those core ideals that unite us.

I support gay marriage, the legalization of marijuana, progressive taxing, planned parenthood and legalized abortion, loveual equality, and many other "Democratic" stances. Assuming that someone's political identification makes them unable to desire helping everyone is the height of intolerance.

Sounds like you're a libertarian and not a republican at all

yeah wesley you sound socially left but economically right

which would make you a libertarian, not a republican

There are many other issues that factor into me being a Republican, I only touched on some of those that contradict the stigma that people have come to associate with the GOP. I agree with the vast majority of Republican policy.

I wouldn't support the Libertarian party anyways unless they had an actual chance at winning.

"I wouldn't support this party unless it had more support"

"I wouldn't support this party unless it had more support"
Supporting a third party is like being permanently benched in a basketball game. You can watch but you can't play.

This is one of the most uneducated, bigoted things I have ever heard.

It's Night Fox what do you expect lmao

american third parties are all pretty stuff but it's a self-fulfilling prophecy if you don't support them just because they aren't popular

i would like to see at least popular third party candidates be allowed into presidential debate

The thing is, if you look at elections through the lens of game theory, it is impossible to have more than two parties in the long run when you use first-past-the-post voting systems. Let's look at the approximate percentages of votes cast for each candidate:

(3rd party percentages estimated based on a couple states:)
Quote
Clinton (D): 48%
Annoying Orange (R): 47%
Johnson (L): 3%
Stein (G): 1%

Let's say that Stein gets a massive increase in popularity from 2016 to 2020 because Annoying Orange got rid of the EPA and a chemical plant blew up and gassed a bunch of preschoolers. The vote in 2020 could look like this:

Quote
Annoying Orange (R): 34%
Sanders (D): 31%
Stein (G): 30%
Johnson (L): 5%

Note that 2/3rds of America did not vote for Annoying Orange, but he wins a second term. What happens then is that the Sanders and the Stein folks, who both hold the same positions on 99% of issues, realize that they screwed themselves by existing as separate parties. So their party officials meet in a basement somewhere and decide to merge and form the Democratic-Green party. Likewise, a substantial number of Johnson's voters rally under Republican conservatism in order to counteract the new liberal alliance. Then, with forces joined together, they successfully rally a majority of voters and sweep the 2024 election.

Quote
Kanye (D-G): 61%
Pence (R): 39%

So unless we can boil politics down to three or more factions with absolutely irreconcilable differences, the two losers are always going to trade and merge voters in order to have a better shot at winning. And although the Libertarian and Green party do have their own distinct beliefs, they are also both very close to the Republican and Democratic parties on general issues, respectively.

Republicans stand for individual freedom, government intervention only when necessary, free enterprise, fiscal responsibility within the government, states' rights, and protecting freedom and rights for Americans before doing so for other countries.
and everything else? what about labor unions? more taxes for rich people? more regulation of corporations? immigration?
also, it can hardly be said that choosing to ignore other countries is good for everyone

you may be relatively liberal, socially, but that doesn't mean the majority of republican party is. presumably, you also vote for republicans, who hold these conservative stances

this so damn much lmao

Maybe if we changed to RANKED CHOICE VOTING and third party candidates had a chance
plus more people would just naturally gravitate to them if they were able to voice their ideas
basically it's bullstuff and we have the worst possible system for all this
