the international criminal court is where perpetrators of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, etc. are sent for prosecution by an international, nonpartisan power. russia was formerly a signatory of the court's charter, but putin has signed legislation for russia to shed that responsibility, calling it "ineffective" and a waste of money.

to put this into geopolitical perspective, the united states is a signatory who has renounced her membership as well, and china has never ratified the charter.

rip ukraine, belarus, and finland it was nice knowing you guys

another blow to humanitarian efforts. rip.

any idea why the US resigned from the court?

we signed on in 2000 under clinton but the bush administration pulled out in 2002 (presumably so the united states wouldn't be indicted for war crimes during the iraq war)

Mark my words, the Soviet Union will make a comeback.

^Soviet Re-Union, anyone?

Russia can now chew up UN convoys to their hearts content

just gonna bump this one more time for visibility

i did the same thing too they just forgot to renew their builders club membership

Well of course it's ineffective if people keep resigning from it.

I wish I could just resign from the US Justice System and commit all the crimes I want
