Punk rock died with the 90s. All the bands that call themselves punk rock nowadays appeal to like 13 year old girls. Bands like Green Day, Blink 182, Oasis, Nirvana, the Ramones, etc. are the real deal.

Nirvana and Oasis are definitely not punk. Think less grunge and more stuff like Rancid, Dead Kennedys, or Black Flag. Chances are if it gets played a lot on pop stations or in public, it's not punk.
