Absolutely. X and The Ramones and The Dead Milkmen are forgetin awesome. I tune out around the point where it's just yelling into a mic and half the people in the crowd are murdering each other

Authentic punk can be alright but it's not really my style. Most of what you consider punk is also probably more pop punk as others said.

Yes, as with every genre, there are lots of great artists, and then some not so great ones. When you include proto-punk and post-punk the pool becomes much larger. In my opinion some excellent punk musicians are Iggy and the Stooges, Atari Teenage Riot, Zach Hill, Joy Division, Velvet Underground, and lots of no wave/new wave groups. But I really cannot stand third wave ska-punk acts, they sound so watered down and lame to me.

if punk rock is about going against the establishment, why are so many songs in standard tuning

because punk rockers are terrible musicians

that isn't a problem for them though because the point of punk rock has always been the message

sum 41's older stuff is waaay more punk than anything created by blink 182 btw
the offspring's old stuff is really good too
bad religion is p good as far as "normal" punk goes

same here tho. sum 41 and teenage bottlerocket are really poppy but theyre nostalgic for me
