Author Topic: best mechanical keyboard switch (FINAL VOTE)  (Read 10501 times)

if you haven't soldered before then dont do it

practice first and get comfortable
just to add to this not everyone has a soldering iron, and the razer chroma is sort of expensive.

murderouscop would be better off just getting a different keyboard than trying to tinker with it
yeah and don't invest into a soldering iron and solder if you're not planning to do it multiple times

cherry mx > every other mech switch brand
mx blue is my nomination

cherry mx > every other mech switch brand

have you even tried other switches

don't forget that this is extremely time consuming tho and you have a chance of loving up hard
nope lol
i had to desolder all of the mx red switches then solder on gateron blues and I forgeted up here and there but all the keys still work lmao

gateron blues are still the best overall

Model M's for typing definitely

Model M's for typing definitely
do you have individual model Ms for each key
"brb gotta press w"

that must kill your WPM

No wonder Model Ms are expensive, he is hoarding them all.

Typing switches? I'll throw a nomination out for Cherry MX Blue, and another one for Topre just 'cause. Out of the four switches I've tried, those two are probably the most suited for typing.

Cherry's MX Blue design is not bad. I really like how the tactility is just present enough for me to know when the keypress registered without being too distracting and how the actuation force is just high enough to keep me from bottoming out without making my fingers feel tired. Really easy to type on. If the click sound was more refined and the hysteresis wasn't as long as Sarah Jessica Parker's face, it might've placed higher on my acquisition list (the Ducky Shine 4 I tried them on was on loan from a friend).

I'm currently typing on a Novatouch with 45g weighting. The total lack of scratchiness, 1mm operation point and fast key bounce make for a really nice key feel, but I don't know if the tactility of the 45g domes would make for the absolute best experience for typing--It's really soft. I'd describe it as more of a tactile "hill" rather than a "bump." The dip in force past the peak makes it nearly impossible to not bottom out your keys. It's great as a daily driver, though.

I'd really like to get my hands on a Matias click keyboard. I think those would be great for typing on. Other dream typing switches would probably include Alps SKCM Blue, IBM Capacitive Buckling Springs (Model F), and IBM Beam Springs (loving solenoids for clickers? Holy stuff!).

Next keyboard is currently a tossup between this Leopold FC980M in MX Red and another KBP V60 in Matias Clicky flavor.

I mean if mechanical keyboards came in sleeker models then sure I would pick one
till then membrane or chiclet, don't kill me for this
I mean the current keyboard I use looks like a chiclet and I use it all the time
