Well, it's all personal preference really. I'm a huge metal fan and love the really fast stuff Thrash, Speed, Death metal you name it but I also dig the slow stuff too. stuff ever heard of the 80's neoclassical shred guys? Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jason Becker, etc if you're ever looking for loving speed and musicality check those dudes out man you won't be disappointed. If you don't like the slow stuff which is understandable just listen to the fast stuff. Also if you're ever looking for stuff that rip your face off let me know and I'll provide you with some good stuff.
