aside from your imac probably not being able to run with shaders, what exactly is the issue, how are they not working

Ya need a graphics card to run shaders, intel integrated graphics just wont do.

Intel graphics have been known to not be able to run shaders except up to minimum.

Ya ain't missin' much. Sometimes Shaders Off looks nicer. (Inside, everything's the same lighting color. Drives me nuts.)

I have an intel computer and it can run shadows, but not very well. I've had the same problem with my mini mac. Shadows are not optimized to run on a Mac. As far as I know they only work on Windows machines.

Works for me

Some of intel's newer chipsets along with their updated drivers do in fact finally support shadows; but they tend to be too intense to run anyways.

For whatever reason shadows have pretty much been always broken on Macintosh regardless of hardware. From what I've gathered it's mostly an issue of drivers, for whatever reason the drivers made for Macintosh hardware just don't render the shadows correctly. I've yet to hear of any solution to the issue.
