Author Topic: [NEWS] Protests and Looting occur after 20% rise in Mexican gas prices  (Read 2495 times)

it's still rioting, the context is irrelevant. don't try to warp the picture by using the wrong word
what makes you think anyone would get the impression that this isn't a riot when "looting" is included in the title

ask the op who refuses to call it anything but a protest

I never said it wasn't a riot. The term riot in the context of Tactical Nuke's post has a connotation that the resulting actions are not called for and are overreactions/unjustified on the behalf of those affected.
also can we stop calling them protests and instead call them riots

like they actually are

The article sourced calls them 'demonstrators' and also calls it a protest. I don't think lashing out at OP for the sources' error is at all correct. If you want to find the part that mentions it's a riot, go ahead and post that source instead.

am i tactical nuke

donde es la biblioteca bitch

how can a 20% price hike cause this much outrage? thats like raising the price of a gallon of gas from $2.00 to $2.40 which is pretty normal here in the states.

whats the loving difference at this point

say it costs 2$ per gallon normally and you use a gallon per day
now it goes up to 2.40$ per gallon and a gallon per day

you've successfully went from spending 730$ a year to 870$ a year. if you put that at the regular gas prices which is about 2200 a year then you've now gone up to 2700$ a year which may seem like nothing to you but for the working person that means that you'll lose an entire month of groceries

my guess would be festering anger and this was just the tipping point since gas in mexico is roughly 30% higher than in america

this doesn't mean they aren't riots
They aren't though. They're taking back what's theirs

interesting how much you can extrapolate from my pretty plain complaint about the poor writing of the article

nowhere did I say that rioting or protesting this was not justified, never mind the fact that rioting is never justified

what I said is that it is factually incorrect to call this a protest, because looting is a characteristic of rioting (thus making it rioting), and that it is a disservice to refer to such frowned-upon behavior in such nonaggressive terms

did you just steal MY joke
haha i said it first limprichard
