Author Topic: Computer boots into GNU GRUB, help  (Read 847 times)

I started up an old laptop I need to run a simple server, however I can't even boot windows 7. It tries to make me boot into Ubuntu (even though I don't recall ever putting it in there). I can't figure how to boot into windows, so I tried to boot it in Ubuntu. When I do that I see:

"BusyBox v1.21.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.21.0-1ubuntu1) built-in shell  (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands. (initramfs)"

Please help me. Did I do some kind of dual boot with Ubuntu and windows 7? How do I get back to windows 7?

you're actually booting into busybox, which is basically a whole bunch of unix utilities and not really a full fledged OS (although it is). what does the GRUB screen say when you boot your laptop up?

ok, it actually looks like windows 7 isn't installed on there

do you still have the installation media?

No, it was oem.

I found an old laptop hard drive I had sitting around and put it in here incase I decide to put Windows back in. Problem is now that a majority of my keys don't have any input. (Only 2 numbers work, various letters, etc.) Any solution for that?

is there even a windows 7 partition?

maybe it's still installed and GRUB doesn't have an option to boot to it.

but tbh it would just be easier to wipe it clean and reinstall if you have nothing important on it

I have lots of research vids I thought of for years, but could never find
