Author Topic: Whats your guy's opinion on religion?  (Read 6674 times)

i think the sole purpose of people believing in a religion is selfishness.

they don't truly care about the ideals, they just want to have an afterlife.

spoiler alert: there is no afterlife
you perceive things from your brain. you die, you brain stops functioning, you stop perceiving things.

i know christians/muslims/catholics who dont even believe in an afterlife. the sole purpose of being devoted to a religion isn't getting into heaven/reincarnation. go talk to someone whose religious bud

I was raised Christian but I lost faith in middle school. I would call myself an agnostic atheist now, though I definitely have a spiritual side. I think religion is a cool social construct, something like a government but spanning millennia and rooted in community and faith. As for deities, I see no evidence for or against unfalsifiable beings. Wouldn't surprise me if one existed, though whether they are worthy of worship is up in the air.

I respect religious folk and generally just keep my mouth shut. Oftentimes a person's faith is pretty personal; I'd hate to belittle that. The only religious system I'll straight up call bullstuff is creationism, as somebody currently pursuing a degree in evolutionary biology.

Also anybody who claims "something can't come from nothing" doesn't understand the Big Bang theory. It posits the universe came from a singularity if I'm not mistaken, and quantum fluctuations initiated its expansion. Or some stuff. I take nobody's opinion on the conception of the universe seriously except for physicists. I'll admit my own opinion on the universe's creation is irrelevant.

thought it was the one where they ask the supercomputer "is there a god?" and the CPU unplugs itself and destroys everything that can shut it off and just says

"there is now"

Reading hillkill and Nonnel's posts...I didn't realise they wanted to be intentionally thick cunts, but I guess every religion thread needs to have a bunch of trolls.

Good on you fellas for finding your ultimate role in life.

sorry for having a different view  :panda:

id like to think nonnel is a fedora-tipping-and-flipping master and that everytime he sees someone with a cross on their shirt he goes up and yells "THER OFTARLIFF ISNT REEL, STOOPUND CHRIHSTAN"

sorry for having a different view  :panda:
pick a hand, heretic!

There's a difference between having a different view and being a cunt about it. Posting "you religious people are wrong" in multiple forms over multiple posts is the easiest way to spark a flameout.

If you're atheist, that's totally fine, but it doesn't make you any better or worse than anybody else. Everybody has their views and so long as they're not burning people at the stake, it is what it is. Hell, everybody has some weird trait or belief behind who they are, beyond religious or political thoughts, so you just have to acknowledge that and move it on.

i haven't done that, though. i stated my own position (as per the topic "what's your guys' opinion on religion?") and questioned others on theirs. that's how discussion works.
