Well, in Top Gear they keep saying you can see France from England and there's that tunnel and the big water channel you can use to cross, so I picked the country closest to the UK on the European mainland...

Can't you see how close the bottom right tip of England is to France? It's a lot closer.

Also my favourite part of your map is that you labelled Germany and East Germany, but you put East Germany to the West of Germany.
