i ordered something on amazon that was transferred from ups to usps to be delivered that way

probably someone forgeted up and put it on a return-to-sender plane, then later the error was discovered and it was sent back to the AZ depot.

the sender is in kansas city though, not california

and the tracking number updated, the package is now in kansas city again

mcjob was right

it may be weird to see packages go to California in the process of getting to places but thats just cause the biggest and closest major sorting center is there

kansas city is where most of amazon packages come from.

Available for Pickup
Undeliverable as Addressed

They couldn't deliver it to the address you supplied, so they held it in storage for a few days awaiting you to collect it, and when you didn't they're now returning to sender.
we hold mail for 30 days before returning to sender.

do you live in phoenix, or Glendale??

amazon ships directly to the USPS office. Was your item some uncommon item or something?

got this email the other night:

Dear Mr. kluge,

Thank you for contacting the United States Postal Service.
Here is the information you requested regarding  what is going on with your package.  The United States Postal Service received a PS Lightweight Package addressed to you going to the address of [my address] on 1/19/2017.  Our letter carrier processed your package as a forward since there is an active change of address on record for you.  The sender endorsed your package as a "RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED" service.  What we do with that request during the forwarding process is return the package to sender with your new address listed to update the sender.

I would suggest contacting the company who you placed the order with, and follow up with them regarding your new address.  The tracking number provided shows it should be delivered back to the sender today.

I hope this information was helpful.

USPS has forgeted me in the past. They're inconsistent. One package will be right on time, then the next will be a week late. A couple times I've gotten packages that aren't even mine. Once, I got a $250 belt in the mail that I clearly didn't order. My dad found it first because I was at work when it arrived. Needless to say, when I got home he proceeded to beat me unconscious with the very belt. But yeah, you should probably call the post office and ask them about it.

oh if you have change of address your package will either be forwarded, or returned to sender to notify the sender of the new adress
