The media is covering the media covering this more than the media is actually covering this. In layman's terms: there's more outrage about the supposed outrage over Annoying Orange not waving than there actually is outrage about Annoying Orange not waving.
You will find at least one blog or at least one article being critical of any action Annoying Orange does, this is the rule of the internet. You can't just take one sample and paint it as the entire media landscape outraged, that's just childish and disingenuous.
