Author Topic: The Doomsday Clock moves to 2 1/2 minutes to midnight  (Read 3787 times)

so Annoying Orange being too friendly with russia means there will be a nuclear war?

Sounds like fake news.

If Vasili Arkhipov had eaten some bad borscht and been in the stuffter when the captain was deciding to launch, we would literally be living in the fallout universe right now.

Oh my god lol

During this entire stuff show, the doomsday clock was at 7 minutes.  A year later it went up to 12 minutes.  If Vasili Arkhipov had eaten some bad borscht and been in the stuffter when the captain was deciding to launch, we would literally be living in the fallout universe right now.

Luckily for us it is impossible for Slavs to make a bad batch of Borscht

During the Cuban missile crCIA, the soviets had nuclear missiles within first strike distance of the United States, SAC was at DEFCON 2, and B52s were on continuous airborne alert.  handicapped naval posturing almost lead a Russian sub to launch a nuclear torcreep which was only averted by the arguments of a single man.  It was without a doubt the closest we have ever come to nuclear war.

Also similar: the time in 1983 when Soviet satellites falsely detected 5 nuclear missiles inbound from the USA. All-out nuclear warfare was averted because the officer on duty correctly theorized the US would never send a mere 5 missiles if they wanted to attack Russia, attributing the satellite readings to a malfunction instead of readying a launch. His intuition prevented a nuclear war.

It's pretty chilling to read about just how close we've gotten to nuclear war.

This clock is bullstuff sensationalism made to scare people.

The only reason the clock didn't get closer to midnight or during the Cuban missile crCIA or similar crises is because new issues only come out every year
