"hydrogen can finally into metal"

wait, what exactly are the applications for this kind of stuff? i hear it's going to bring quite a lot of great things to us but like what?
superconductors, AKA 0 energy resistance

metalize everything.

even humans

To give another perspective on the density of metallic hydrogen, it's at the core of Jupiter, which is ≈ 317.816 times the mass of Earth, and ≈ 2.528 times the gravity of Earth.  You need something of astronomically strong gravity to create it naturally.

extremely lightweight building material (the next aluminum revolution, potentially) + it's a superconductor AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

it's a superconductor AT ROOM TEMPERATURE
Holy stuff
Cheap processors, yes please!

Cheap processors, yes please!

cheap isn't going to happen any time soon, however I assume processors made of the stuff would be far more efficient than what we have today

Well I mean that H metal is probably cheaper then gold

Hydrogen. That beautiful, universal element.

maybe in the future when its easier to create however i dont expect the metal to be even applied to anything for at least 3-5 years from now, they managed to make it but they'll need a sizeable sample to actually use it for anything. and unless the scientists find a more efficient way to pressurise the hydrogen this metal stands as one of the rarest in the world

aside that point, i also recall reading that they're still checking if its stable or not. because if it isnt stable outside of its pressure chamber then its obviously going to be unusable in the applications most people are expecting it to be used in

do you even osmium, friend
