-the fog takes forever to come in and often the last few minutes of the game is three or four guys just wandering around
The fog only takes 10 minutes to close in on itself (everyone dies if it does) but after about 6 minutes it's just 2-3 guys. I have a manual "rapid-close" option I can turn on to speed up the orb but if I'm not on IDK what to do about it. If the orb was faster the same thing would still happen--it's not to do with time, it's just a math thing. I'm gonna try to make rapid-close automatic when just 3-4 players remain. Thanks for the advice.
-instant kill raycast weaponry on a huge map and rounds that take forever
Thanks for the tip, I felt the same way. I reduced Sniper and .357 headshots from 100 damage to 99. This means if you are at full health you can withstand a single headshot from one of those. Body shots are 50. IMO raycasting weapons are what separates it from a normal DM. You get hit INSTANTLY and take heavy damage, so it's more about cover and caution than dodging bullets.
-only having 5 inventory slots and ammo taking slots means players are forced to pray they get a gun they have ammo for
Yea, I originally had 7 inventory slots, but it starts to bug out with Slayer when you get above 5. Conan promised to fix it but hasn't yet, so blame him. Hopefully it'll be done before next time I host.
-guns not coming with ammo means you have to pray you get ammo for your gun
Yea, I agree. I don't want guns to spawn with ammo because that would be incredibly overpowered, but I never expected so many people to be on that map. It's only half the map and it had a full-sized server so there was only half as much ammo to go around. Scavenging is the point, but that was too hard. When players are more spread out on the full map that won't be a problem.
-if you don't have a gun and ammo there is no weak but reliable alternative like a melee weapon
Melee weapons are useless after a few minutes, so they definetely won't spawn in the map. I thought about having a right-click to punch option, but honestly, I think that wouldn't be much fun. Some of the meatiest desperation both in the film and in this server is when someone runs out of ammo and is rendered defenseless mid-fight due to poor management, or both fighters run out and look at eachother deer-eyed before running to find more.
Thanks so much for all the tips! Hopefully I'll have fixed each of them before next time I host.
