and all of this wont happen. just because you guys bought badspot's game doesnt mean he has an obligation to update it when just coming up to 10 years old. the community runs the game now.

the game code is already practically open source - the few encryped source files (.dso) have even been partially or fully decompiled. modders can already do everything - what's preventing progress is access to the modified engine so we can write new functions or .dlls (more easily) or modify the base game itself that take advantage of inaccessible engine functions or modify existing engine functions to work differently

the inherent problem with this is that theres no way to make such changes official and having some sort of process would require a lot of time on badspots end to read code written by modders. more likely than not, the community would become fragmented over whatever unofficial versions there are, and the few malicious users have the potential to give bl a bad rep by writing versions that are literal viruses
