Author Topic: new garry mode map coming by YOURS TRULY. . . .  (Read 1062 times)

so the office map is dead in the water for the moment because i have this thing which i like to call "spontaneous motivation" in which i will just work on something for a loving long time and then never finish it
so around the 12-13th of december i began work on a map that i wanted to make and that span of time resulted in me working for a straight 24 hours
then i slowed down after a while and now im picking it back up again while i have new ideas
same gamemode as before with tornadoes and stuff but im going to make this more detailed and im going to work on the tornado systems a bit more (have the timers and relays switch between different particles and sounds if possible to give variety and add different strengths to the tornadoes)
lots of revisions this time around too

last time i made one of these was 7-8 months ago and i've improved loving /immensely/ since then so consider this an announcement meme or something
i've sort of gotten complaints about the lighting but its the best that fits with the skybox and it isnt changing so rip
heres a few random screenshots

I used to make maps and here's a suggestion. Paint some other textures on top of the single textured dirt, like a lighter or darker tone on higher ground, tone the sides of bumps like under the structure, rocks near the side of the road, etc. that makes a world of difference.

looks cool!
i'm excited to play it when you're done

Is it easy to create maps for GMOD?

I've always wanted to get into making maps for games, any tips for starters?

I'd also say you'd probably want to make the environment a bit more hilly, it looks just a bit too flat to really seem natural.

basically i've had roots when it came to me wanting to map
i know this guy named "rhapid" and he used to make these tornado maps for garrysmod and i used to help him beta test and i would host the beta servers for him and such
at one point he gave me the go ahead to decompile a map and toy around with it and make an edit and i turned it into a night time version, with a few street lights and it was really crappy looking
anyways so that was august of 2014 and about a year or so later i started thinking "why not just make my own stuff"
so around november late one night i just began making this csgo map seeing what i could toy around with
i chose the source engine since it was the one i was most familiar with at the time with my thousands of hours on garrys mod

at first i was really stuff and i was just throwing stuff at the wall to see what would help me improve (different tactics of making brushes/different ways of detailing maps and making them look good with lighting and stuff) and eventually i've gotten to where i am at today and i will try continuing on improvement

it's hard to really explain how to "get good" with mapping, i just picked it up and really got good with it in a incredibly small timespan of a year and a half
