Author Topic: Book publishers hiring "sensitivity readers" to weed out "offensive" content  (Read 3137 times)

You'd be surprised at how much gets edited out of pretty much all books by publishers anyway.

If I was a book writer i would hire sensitivity readers just so i can put in more of the stuff that makes them triggered.
Not because i am "le trolle XDD", But because it's good to teach people life's not about getting your way all the time.

if you don't like your extremely insensitive book being flagged by the publisher, find a different publisher

You gotta understand the topography of book publishing:

There isn't going to be a "different publisher" in a few years.

So it begins
Publishers refusing to publish offensive content has been going on for decades.

Publishers refusing to publish offensive content has been going on for decades.
since publishers have existed, actually

like putting smoke detectors in a room full of smoke

what did you think was gonna happen

Can't editors do this themselves?

sensitivity readers and editors are the reason why 'forget all mondays' doesn't end up in our children's books. honestly if you think removing NSFW and offensive stuff from certain books is 'censorship' you're literally autistic

of course, if you're making a book that is intentionally offensive, it probably won't matter. these sensitivity readers are being hired to weed out offensive content in major book releases and stuff that they dont want to be offensive.

What, exactly, is "offensive" this day and age? People are hyper sensitive now. You can't refer to someone as a handicap because it's, according to general public opinion, offensive to the mentally disabled, even though no one's insulting them directly, because that'd be dumb, because they're mentally disabled and can't control that.
Having gorillas in jail is offensive because people think they're referring to black people.
You can't show women in a bad light, or it's loveist. Which is offensive.
Everything is offensive.
