Authors and publishers are increasingly hiring “sensitivity readers” to screen books for culturally offensive material before sending them to market. A cultural climate that has the publishing industry increasingly under the microscope by fans has created a demand for specialized book scanners. Individuals are paid a small fee, roughly $250 per mstar fishcript, to look for content deemed problematic.

“The industry recognizes this is a real concern,” children’s book author and editor Cheryl Klein recently told The Washington Post. Some of the red flags for sensitivity readers include stories on transgender issues, Islamic communities, and individuals with terminal illnesses.

“Books for me are supposed to be vehicles for pleasure, they’re supposed to be escapist and fun,” librarian and sensitivity reader Dhonielle Clayton told the newspaper Feb. 10.

Why the democrats lost election part 2: Electric Boogaloo

yo im bout to apply for this stuff
ez money

you know theyre trying their hardest to be inoffensive so they can make more money, right? something controversial like a protagonist being an anti-semite would probably cut into sales.

who determines what's offensive or not?

I could apply for a position and find nothing wrong, meanwhile a blubbering shivering piece of fecal matter could also apply and flag the entire book

if you wouldn't trust people with punching national socialists, why would you trust them telling you what is good and bad?

if you don't like your extremely insensitive book being flagged by the publisher, find a different publisher

we live in a democracy with business freedom and the freedom to choose who you want to publish your book. exercise that freedom instead of "fascism! censorship! ahh!" if Phanto's Children Books Publishing Service wants to hire a sensitivity reader to make sure there isn't any tribal or islamophobic bullstuff in it, they should be allowed to do it without you complaining about it.

the world shouldn't run on put this in and you're evil, but it also shouldn't run on put this in or you're evil

they hire people to look for things that might be culturally offensive that people outside that culture generally wouldn't notice. they're not censoring anything.

This is a very good idea and I'm confused why you wouldn't think so. Weeding out offensive content will make it appeal to more people(except the people who want offensive content for no reason but they can eat stuff for all I care)which will obviously make more money. If you don't like it, find a different publisher for forgets sake
