Author Topic: [NEWS] Republican bill will reduce free school lunch  (Read 20844 times)

"make everything stufftier and cut government expenditures"
the sad part is that average right wing people think that these policies are going to improve things for them when in reality it only makes things better for the 1% and the people in high positions of the government.

it will hurt the poor, white, black, hispanic, asian, americans, immigrants. it will literally hurt everyone who isn't super rich.

Except no it won't. I went to public school my entire life in lower middle class schools and less than ten people between those five schools was on free lunches. Reduced lunches, more yes, but free lunches is rare.

Where I live, almost half of my school is on free lunch

also a quote from National School Lunch program:
Quote
The National School Lunch Program is a federally assisted meal program operating in over
100,000 public and non‐profit private schools and residential child care institutions. It provided
nutritionally balanced, low‐cost or free lunches to more than 31 million children each school day
in 2012.

also nearly 60% of people on the lunch program get free lunch. just because you don't see something in effect in your experience or area doesn't mean that it doesn't exist in other areas. personal experience doesn't factor into statistics with over millions of people involved, only facts

once again, these republican laws that cut out necessary support for low income families are essentially lose-loses. there's absolutely no reason to remove them in the first place, therefore doing so is a waste of time and money, and will only hurt people.

The numbers on the site are saying only 8.5 million full price school lunches are being served annually. I do not believe these numbers in the slightest and would prefer to see something other than "preliminary data." Maybe this has become more widely abused since it's been a long while since I was in school, but I 100% doubt that more free lunches are served to students than paid lunches.

Looking at other sites they're basically just handing this stuff out to anyone. I wholeheartedly support having this repealed when it's rampantly being abused by people who earn enough. Furthermore, the poverty line is so hilariously jacked up in this program that a family taking home 40k is considered 160% impoverished. What a joke. I'd much rather pay for my own kids lunches than my own kids and everyone else's too.

Well, there's literally no other data on this. NSLP is a government owned program that is one of its kind and the only one to provide free lunches. If you don't believe their data, then you don't believe the government. Either way, it's the most believable and accurate data that exists on the internet. Everything else is superstition

There isn't a way to abuse free lunches. They check your family's financial situation, race, everything from the bottom to the top and determine if you're eligible for free lunch. There's no proof that people are abusing it on a large scale, as the data doesn't exist to prove it.

mind posting these 'other sites' that you say are handing things out to everyone?

If you fully believe everything the government says you have my sympathy. We've spoken before on how easy it is to prove a certain fact when you tweak the experiment enough.

Just read through the first few links when googling "stats free school lunches".

why would they check race to decide whether or not to give you free lunch? shouldn't it be based completely on income?

i might be wrong about that

Well, your blind skepticism for facts is the reason why millions of people might not receive free lunches anymore. it's this kind of stupidity that results in faulty decisions.

I've read through those links and I see nothing about "handing this stuff out to anyone"

race
This isn't a racial issue nor is this part even true in the slightest

This isn't a racial issue nor is this part even true in the slightest
i never said it was a racial issue? what kind of brain disorder do you have to even interpret it as a race issue?

when schools and jobs determine financial support and other stuff they always look at race. it's not a race issue, it's just how they come to certain decisions. i wouldn't be surprised if they factor in race into the free lunch eligibility form. it's probably a checkbox like "what is your child's race?"

They check your family's financial situation, RACE, everything from the bottom

If they based their decision on race, then that would make their business practices tribal, and thus illegal. Do you really believe this happens?

They base those options on many other factors, excluding race.

How do you know this

If something is done, even partially due to someone's race, it becomes a race issue.

How do you know this

He doesn't it's absolute gobble-de-gook.
