I'm not gay, so I don't really know, but I'll tell you that on one or two occasions I was randomly hit up by acquaintances on social media who asked if I was gay, pretty straight forward. I'm not saying it's the best approach but I wasn't creeped out or thought any less of them for it. However, I know I'd prefer just being asked on social media over being flirted with IRL.
