Author Topic: How would I go about sticking to a project long term?  (Read 2057 times)

Hello! You may know of me slightly if you've browsed the creativity and forum games sections of BLF even though I'm a new BLF user.

On Topic:
I see people making extremely awesome blockland builds and I think I want to build something cool too, yet when I boot up blockland I just get unmotivated to do it.. So any tips or recommendations to help get more motivated?

start small, like any good game dev. dont scope too big or else you face not getting enough progress done or burning yourself out before it reaches a self-sustainable state.

lot of the best builds come about from having a general idea of what they wanna do, but just focusing on finishing that small part they are working on and make it look kickass. or something like "hm man this awesome house would go great on an awesome cliff" and just kinda roll from there.

Thank you, this helps a lot!

Along with starting small and going slow, would really recommend you get some inspiration for whatever your project is. If you want to make a ww2 game, watch some ww2 movies or read about it. When I've made projects it's really helped me to get into it and enjoy working on it.

Yet again, great advice! Thank you as well.

I would say not to start anything else new. If you have time, work on the project and only the project. That's the only way it will get done and you wont get tangled up with other things.

Try to not Overload yourself, Don't be afraid to take breaks, Don't do anything too complicated.

Thank you both, I'm starting to get motivated!

Get the idea in your mind that you want to work on, once you do that figure out how you want to start it. Don't be afraid to take breaks. Taking breaks can help you refresh your creative ideas.

I've been working on this for quite a while, I take a lot of breaks to make sure i don't get a roadblock on creativity

Hope some of this stuff helps :)

Work on one chunk at a time so you are not overwhelmed. Put yourself in a state of mind where you can be productive, whether that means taking lots of drugs or listening to music while you play.

There is no secret to motivation, just little things you can do to improve your performance.

Thank you, really everyone contributing to this forum I appreciate it.

Set up a schedule. Work x many hours a day every x day etc. Limit those hours only to your project.

...I've been here since 2009 and the responses to this thread made me realize I need to change my approach to a build I'm working on
