Okay so i'm not much of a tinfoil hat wearer or matrix fan but for some reason i really dislike technological advancements.

I dont spend much time playing video games anymore because it was getting in the way of my life and distracting me from important stuff like working out and maintaining health, etc. etc. As more years go by im afraid that technology is killing humanity to a certain extent.

I'm not afraid of like, medical advancements and stuff that helps save lives or improve lives, especially in like 3rd world countries, but i'm afraid of technology replacing key biological functions. For example, if you spend your entire life typing (its probable that future generations will) you might forget how to handwrite properly, and parts of your finger's muscles will experience atrophy making it harder to pick up that habit again.

Maybe one day we might use these technologies so much that our typical behavior such as walking, writing, breathing, eating, etc. will be replaced by mechanisms that do it for us. We have cars, and the more we drive cars, the less we use our leg muscles, and maybe one day we might even use smaller transportation devices that will completely replace our legs.

/discuss dangers of technology to biological life

We already have scientific evidence that shows that if you don't use a bodily function, it becomes weaker, and then you use it for the first time under high stress, it usually fails.

If we eventually evolve to co-exist with technology, we'll have to increase our search for limited, non-sustainable resources to keep that technology in place. One day, we might run out of those resources whether it be power, oil, coal, or even materials to build more technology. When that happens we'll be forced to operate without technology, but we won't be prepared because we'd have lived our entire lives with it.

maybe we'll all be cyborgs before our bodily functions become weaker

typing uses the same muscles writing does; atrophying isn't an issue

it doesn't matter if we get stuff handwriting for the same reason it doesn't matter if we're stuff at building bows. it's an increasingly outdated skill. if someone still has enough of a use/interest of/in handwriting, then they won't magically become stuff at it - they'll just keep writing.

as for the energy use argument - why do we need non-sustainables to support tech? what's wrong with solar? geothermal? wind? hydroelectric?

I saw the Terminator the other day, immediately took a baseball bat to my toaster.

even if this were to happen there would definitely be a significant percentage of the population who wouldn't opt for that kind of inactive lifestyle

non-sustainable resources, think he means how you can't grow copper or iron like you can with trees for wood

ah. recycling can sustain us until off-world mining becomes viable, then. it's pretty simple, really

>doesnt like technology
>uses his phone or computer to use the internet
What

Am I missing a joke or something?

I think we all are.

if this is technophobia what is technophilia

People who masterbate to internet research.

I was never good at handwriting anyway
