Background

During 1942, the British government devised and began testing of a possible means to deliver Anthrax to German cities and fields to poison its people and food supply, named Operation VegetarianInfo. By 1944, the anthrax cakes were ready to manufacture and deploy. By early 1945, a sufficient quantity of anthrax cakes had been manufactured to put Operation Vegetarian in plan. On the night of January 23, 1945, bomber aircraft dropped the anthrax cakes onto German farmland and stockyards. The infection quickly spread across the country as people ate infected meat, and food shortages and famine shortly followed; however, the fighting did not stop. Germany, determined to get revenge on the allies for the biological attacks, stealthily spread infected cattle into France and Britain, infecting the food supplies and populace of both countries, as well as much of Eastern Europe.
The fighting in Europe slowed down immensely, and none of the countries involved dared tried to come to a truce to rebuild and stop the deadly spread of Anthrax. The war ended in 1948, with the collapse of the governments in France, Germany and Britain; the populace, fed up with fighting a war while sick and hungry, revolted. In the ensuing chaos, looting and gangs spread across Europe. During the war, the countries of Europe constructed large mass graves out of concrete, over two stories tall that could house thousands of dead humans and animals. There is still some hope in Europe; many people have begun to flee to Asia and the eastern half of the Soviet Union.

The Story Today

The year is 1961, and it has been over a decade since the end of the second world war. You are Denis Marchant, the 19-year-old son of a cattle farmer in the French farming town of Saint-Bernice. Ever since anthrax had ravaged the land, it was tough to sustain enough food to keep the family alive. Your father passed away in 1959 from an anthrax infection, leaving you in charge of the farm. Yields have been ever decreasing, prompting the discussion of fleeing to the Eastern part of the continent like many others have. It would be a rough journey indeed.
You are standing on the porch of the farmhouse, staring at the yellow fields and gray sky. Behind you is the entrance to the kitchen of the home. You are wearing a cloth shirt and pants; you do not own any biohazard gear. Your only weapons are your father's hunting rifle, and an entrenching tool he had taken as a treasure of war. What is your first course of action?

You step into the kitchen, where your mother is cooking a stew with the few potatoes and vegetables you have. It smells good, and your stomach aches from hunger. You reach into a drawer, procuring a small, sharp knife. You pocket it. You are currently carrying your father's hunting rifle (25 ammo), a sharpened shovel, and a sharp knife.
