Maybe if the US wasn't literally pissing money away on things like walls and military, they could put money towards basic social infrastructure like healthcare. I'm very happy I live in Australia because I've never had to put any thought what-so-ever into paying for anything health related. All covered by our universal healthcare, (at least partially) funded by an income based levy.

Leasuresuit, the biggest problem the US has healthcare wise is big pharma, especially drug companies. No matter who's providing the healthcare, goverment or private, it's these companies and their unethical business practices that cause high healthcare costs. Until big pharma is seriously regulated making a change to the healthcare provider system is totally futile.

A large part of the US healthcare problem is big pharma handcuffing and bribing the goverment. The other big problem we have is that most US social programs are poorly run, corrupt, and abused. This leads to HUGE amounts of wasted capital. If these programs were audited and cleaned out so they would work as intended, the US would be able to pay for all the stuff we bicker about on here
