Passenger's "Hotel California" Cover Sucks

So, three days ago Passenger made this god-awful so-called cover of "Hotel California" by the Eagles. The original remains as one of the most influential songs of all time, (and one of the best in my opinion).
Then, Passenger came along and stuff all over it by making whiny vocals, changing the key, pretty much unplugging the bass, and just forgeted it up in general. Now, I have to say, is Passenger a bad artist? Not necessarily.
But not every song needs a cover! Don't be like Hollywood right now and destroy legacies by remaking them!
