You're missing the point. If Antifa say they are revolutionaries and the government says they are terrorists, more people are going to be willing to side with the government instinctively.
my bad about missing the point but i still just personally disagree

Pictured: terrorist traitors.

are you seriously comparing the founding fathers to violent anarcho-communists

Well, the founding fathers used violence to achieve a political goal.

yeah um that was 3000 years ago stupid

"So much for the tolerant left" - Robert E. Lee after surrendering to Union forces at Appomattox Court House, Apr. 9, 1865.

Well, the founding fathers used violence to achieve a political goal.
A conflict between two sovereign nations, the legitimacy of both of which was recognized on the international stage, and a bunch of nu-males throwing m80s and beating people in the street while dressed in their finest Urban Outfitters black jeans are two entirely different things.

The Continental Army was a legitimate military entity formed through the Continental Congress. The entire American revolution was fought around the practice of the unfair and discriminatory treatment the Colonists received at the hands of the British crown (unjust taxation, unwarranted seizure of property, no ability to represent their interests in Parliament, being forbidden from exercising some of the rights and privileges of British citizens despite being under the jurisdiction of the British empire)

The assertion that the Founding Fathers and the Continental Army were terrorists is just absurd and unfounded. The United States was recognized as a legitimate nation and the only reason they had to resort to violence in that circumstance is because the British crown would continue its tyrannical abuses of authority and refused to come to any sort of compromise, instead resorting to less than effective measures to attempt to squash any rebellion before it happened (Coercive Acts, stationing of Regulars in private homes, seizure of property of dissenters, etc)

The colonists had a valid casus belli in that the British Crown abused its authority and denied their rights both as Englishmen and as human beings.

"So much for the tolerant left" - Robert E. Lee after surrendering to Union forces at Appomattox Court House, Apr. 9, 1865.
The left at the time unanimously voted for secession and against attempts to free the slaves and to give rights to the Freedmen.

Robert E. Lee and the Confederacy as a whole was the left.

You label them a terrorist organization then they will just change their name and keep on doing what they do. Why not try and understand where the problem is coming from instead of just putting labels on everyone? Violence is wrong but Antifa sure as hell isnt the only group being violent out there.

I don't know how leftists are supposed to maintain cordial discourse with national socialists, but OK.
neo-national socialists don't & wont have any kind of relevance in modern day politics, ANTIFA is literally just going after Annoying Orange supporters and calling them national socialists

Pictured: terrorist traitors.

get outta here commie

You are correct in that they aren't the only violent group, but the problem is that violence and intimidation is literally the ONLY way they demonstrate.

They either riot (a la UC Berkeley) or show up to other protests to try to stir up problems, and if that fails, they will just start throwing fists at people to try to provoke them. This "punch a national socialist/Bash the fash" nonsense has really gone too far.

It isn't that I don't have sympathy for the gullible people that get sucked into Antifa-esque nonsense. I have a ton of sympathy for those people. I know a couple of them- if the pattern holds true, they tend to be sheltered and believe they are going out to protest some injustice or advocate for minority rights or something along those lines.

The problem comes when the group shamelessly preys on the weak (the sheltered, the mentally ill, and the misfits looking for belonging) to recruit them for their cause, and painting your opposition as "fascists" and "national socialists" is an incredibly dangerous thing to do, as it dehumanizes them by painting them as these historical "boogeymen."

Look, it tears me up inside because a good friend of mine from High School is all caught up in the whole "revolutionary left" stuff and I know she's smarter than that, she's just very naieve and trusting and has struggled with lack of belonging/mental illness for a while, and she believes that she is doing the right thing by going out with Antifa and "fighting for the cause." She's 100 lbs soaking wet and probably couldn't even bench the bar with no weights on it. The fact that these vulnerable people are being manipulated into being violent really sickens me.

I have so much sympathy for these clearly vulnerable people, but I don't believe in allowing them to be violent without repercussions. If one swings at me, I wouldn't hesitate to defend myself, but I don't believe in attacking people for their politics. I don't care who it is, violence in the political process is unacceptable and Antifa is taking advantage of society's most vulnerable people.

They're not a terror organization. They're a hate group working up to that status.

Well, the founding fathers used violence to achieve a political goal.

You almost got me

punching national socialists is good in theory, but in practice people end up just attacking anybody with different political beliefs.

actual, genuine national socialists don't deserve any sympathy, though. when you adopt an inherently evil and violent political philosophy, it should come as no suprise when somebody responds with violence in turn. it doesn't matter whether or not the national socialists could actually enforce their will on the public. if you saw a monkey attempting to stab you with a knife, you could easily stop it, so it isnt a problem. however, if you neglect to stop them because it isn't a threat in theory, then the monkey is gonna stab you.

Unless they're actually planning on attacking things you don't have a right to kick their asses
