Cleveland police announced a $50,000 reward has been posted by Crimestoppers Monday for information leading to the capture of the man suspected of killing a random passerby and posting the gruesome footage on Facebook Sunday.

Police have issued a nationwide search for Steve Stephens, 37, and asked residents of Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana, and Michigan to be on alert.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said officers searched dozens of locations for Stephens with no success. The department is working with federal, state and other local agencies to find him.

“As far as we know right now, we don’t know where he’s at," Williams said at a Monday morning news conference. "The last location we had him at was the homicide.”

Federal and local law enforcement officers in at least five states were on the hunt Monday for an armed and dangerous fugitive accused of filming himself killing an elderly Cleveland man and uploading the video to Facebook.

"Our reach right now is basically all over the country," Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams said at a press conference Monday afternoon as the frantic search for Steve Stephens was in its second day.

Stephens was on the run after posting footage of the apparent random killing of Robert Godwin, 74, in northeast Cleveland near the Lake Erie shore.

"He didn't deserve to die," Angela Small, the mother of two of Godwin's children, told NBC News. "I just hate that man. I hate that he took my kids' father ... I don't think that they really have a full understanding that he's gone."

The suspect, Steve Stephens, said in another video post that he had killed 13 people and would kill more.

He shot dead 74-year-old Robert Godwin in Ohio as the victim walked home from Easter lunch on Sunday afternoon.

Godwin apparently was shot while out picking up cans in a plastic shopping bag, his daughter said.

"Not because he needed the money, it was just something he did," said 52-year-old Debbie Godwin. "That's all he was doing. He wasn't harming anyone."

She said her father, who had 10 children, was a gentle man with nothing mean about him. "We called him the junk man," she said. "He'd pick up things off the street and fix them. He picked up bikes and he fixed them."

on easter sunday, a man by the name 'steve stephens' ended up snapping following some type of relationship dispute and started streaming on facebook about how he was going to begin killing random people because of some woman named 'joy lane'. he started ranting about having nothing to lose, then ended the stream. he also made another video, which is linked below, but i'm not sure about their chronological order. following his stream, he began recording again, this time in a car, got out and walked up to a random elderly black man walking down the sidewalk and started telling him to say joy lane, then said "she's why this is happening to you", shooting him in the head then returning to his car

in his manifest video, he claims he's killed 13 people

Pennsylvania State Police said that they had received a tip-off from workers at the fast food chain shortly after 11:00 on Tuesday.

The suspect's white Ford Fusion car had been spotted in the car park of the McDonald's in the city of Erie, near a local police headquarters.

Stephens ordered a 20-piece McNuggets meal and a large order of fries, but employees held his fries while they alerted police.

Henry Sayers, the restaurant's manager, told the New York Times: "He just took his nuggets and said: 'I have to go', and he drove off."

State police pursued him for less than two miles before executing a tactic that involves ramming the rear of a vehicle to make it lose control.

"As the vehicle was spinning out of control from the PIT manoeuvre, Stephens pulled a pistol and shot himself in the head," Pennsylvania state police said in a statement.

During the encounter there were no injuries to members of the public or officers, and Stephens was pronounced dead at the scene, added Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams.

A three-day manhunt in a fatal shooting that garnered intense attention after a video of it was posted on Facebook ended on Tuesday with a brief car chase and the suspect shooting and killing himself, the authorities said.

The episode came to a close near Erie, Pa., about 100 miles east of Cleveland, where the authorities said the suspect, Steve W. Stephens, shot a 74-year-old man at random on Sunday.

Pennsylvania State Police got a tip that Mr. Stephens’ vehicle, a white Ford Fusion, was in the parking lot of a McDonald’s restaurant. When he left the lot, troopers tried to pull him over around 11 a.m., Chief Calvin D. Williams of the Cleveland Police Department said at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.

After a short pursuit, Mr. Stephens pulled over and shot himself; he died at the scene, Chief Williams said.
