Author Topic: mini-rant : why do steam developers design their backgrounds BEHIND the profile  (Read 5587 times)

what I'm complaining about is when Steam backgrounds feature the main design of the background in the center of the background, causing it to be blocked by the profile.

examples of good backgrounds:

whether they're symmetrical or off to the sides, these all complement the center profile very nicely. this is how all backgrounds should be typically formatted

examples of bad backgrounds:

what even is the last background? some old woman dying? great background, they all look handicapped

steam backgrounds have been out for almost 4 years, how have some developers just ignored making their backgrounds nice? i would imagine devs want the nicest looking background possible for their game so they can sell more cards and backgrounds.

I think it's cuz they just take some random concept art and upload it, there's not really much effort put in and frankly I can't blame them for not focusing on some backgrounds instead of working on games etc.

off topic but did badspot draw the blockland steam art himself or did he get someone else

because.

yes

I think I remember him saying he hired someone to do it, but I'm not entirely sure.

He drew them himself as he mentions on his website here.

most of the time profile backgrounds are just previous art made for promotional material
when they're designed around the sides, then the developer/artist made the background specifically for a steam profile background

still the best steam background of all time

still the best steam background of all time

oh shucks what in gods name is that
