what's the incentive to overachieve as is? you get a bigger house, more junk, bragging rights. really, i think they just want a safety net so that the poor don't have to go homeless or starve just because they're not skilled enough to make ends meet
its not even a matter of skill, really. being unlucky enough to be born in a poor neighborhood with underfunded schools is enough to doom you, and most likely your children, to a life of poverty

someone has never heard of professional athletes, or even college athletes, or college scholarships ^

i mean i know grimlock is a troll but i sincerely hope nobody thinks someone should have to be good at sports in order to leave poverty, especially considering they're never taught how to handle that money so down the road they end up poor and too old to have a second chance at playing a sport for millions of dollars

the quality of life changes a lot when you go from homeless to $100k a year, but past that money has less effect  since the extra is only really needed or used for the minor and expensive commodities that although an "improvement" to quality of life, is not as big as the difference between living out of a car vs being able to afford internet, [insert moderately expensive food of choice here], and a gaming rig

"I'm a loving moron and can't actually defend a point so I'll call someone a troll to decredit their argument!!!"

a bunch of kids who I went to high school with who would not have been able to afford college who were good smart kids got a chance via sports. I'm not talking about being a professional athlete, but just getting your college or part of your college paid for is huge. That or just working hard in school, applying for scholarships, ect.

on another note: affirmative action is often poorly executed, but it needs to exist in modern society. getting people into school isn't the issue most of the time, it's paying for said school.

The incentive to overachieve in a capitalist society is money. Money can be translated into goods and services, so the more goods or services you provide (through either being more efficient or more skilled/learning a desirable trade) then that translates to more money in your pocket, and in effect, more goods and services you can consume.

You can live a VERY comfortable life if you overachieve in capitalism. In communism you don't get anything extra except maybe recognition, so there is very little incentive.

And those goods and services include
your own private island and Chinese love slaves.

I dunno if you're just not reading my posts but there is still money in communism. If you have an important skill job, you make more money and can buy more things. A heart surgeon will live a very comfortable life and a KFC cook will still have a place to sleep and food to eat.
