Author Topic: How can I tell if I port-forward correctly?  (Read 2610 times)

Is there a way to tell if my game is completely working, other than if players join the game? If not, can someone attempt to join my game to see if it works?

yeah, thats the only surefire way to test. ask someone to join on Glass or something.

Apparently my internet is crap. I've been on it for at least 10 minutes and the console is just now saying 'Posting to master server'.

That's normal for the message, but for the time, it should spit out something saying it could not connect to it or some other error if it took that long.

I also get this message:

ERROR: WebCom_PostServer() - mission is not running

But when I looked up what it was, I heard that it didn't do anything.

Disable UPnP , start your server then visit this site:

http://blservers.theblackparrot.me/

It's a server list obtainer. If you can see your server in the list then congratulations, your port is forwarded!

I did this myself while trying to forward, it works 100%.

You know that's not how this works, right? That site just copies master2.blockland.us, and whether your server is actually accessible has zero effect on it.

I know, but this method worked for me. Though the way I found out was accidentally.

I was frustrated nobody came to my server when I disabled UPnP (long ago) so I decided to find a service that allows me to view the server list. There was the one I linked (that I found out later) and the one at Cohort's website (the clan). And my server wasn't there. No matter how many times I WebCom_PostServer()'d.

As soon as I could get players, however, my server was in the list clear as day.

I haven't a clue how this worked internally, but it did.

For the future, you can use http://canyouseeme.org to test if you've port-forwarded correctly.

You can download an in-game browser and do the same thing too with "Query Internet"

This site is very useful. I used this a lot when I hosted a IIS server.

I have gone to that website, and it works with port 28000.

Yep, that's the port for Blockland.

In the later part of yesterday, for what ever reason, these ports stopped working. And I'm pretty sure the only reason it wasn't working was because I had my Ethernet cord connected in the wrong spot.

Make sure your router is opening the port and make sure it is on the correct local IP

Well, I was able to get a someone to join my server, though the open port checking tool says port 28000 is closed. Oh well, at least it works now.
