Author Topic: Hey guys, I made a website!  (Read 1673 times)

Hey guys, so like a month ago I was asking you guys help for finding a domain and hosting, I used wix, and over all I'm finished with it. I was wondering what you guys think about it: diversedco.com

It is sort of slow (I'm not sure if it's just wix in general or the unlimited plan I got), so sorry, but it's sort of a place where you can basically find a bunch of relating posts directing teens. My blogs aren't the best haha, but I know I'll improve over time. It's my first project I've ever done and I'm excited about it, but again, what do you guys think about it? PS: I tried doing a mobile version of it and it looks gumpy as heck, so there's only a desktop view for now.

speed and mobile issue aside, the layout is nice
although idk if this is just mobile wonking up the positioning but the dark blue link under the tweets doesn't rly work with the black background

Thanks! Yeah it's supposed to be a feed from twitter to appear and I think it works now (for some reason it turns out wonky), but it seems to be managing for me (at least for now).

Took my browser a solid 15 seconds to load and the sharp color contrasts hurt my eyes.

My advice is to start simpler. Make a basic website using HTML and CSS without any Web 2.0 gadgets or bells and whistles.

did you make this with geocities

if it takes a full minute to load the webpage you have done something wrong

Thanks for the advice! Sorry for the slow loading time, I think I'm going to stop using wix and go to another hosting place. But I just want to know what people think about it.

I think that has less to do with Wix's hosting and more to do with the sheer volume of Javascript and HTML5 nonsense on the page. Like I said, start out really simple. Buy a domain and hosting from some website like GoDaddy and build something from the ground up with HTML/CSS.

Ah okay then, thanks for telling me. This is a pretty fun project in all honesty and want to get better at this.
*Do you guys recommend to build my site using Wordpress better?

Buy a domain and hosting from some website like GoDaddy and build something from the ground up with HTML/CSS.
These build-your-own-site websites will give you very few skills that are applicable to actual web design. You will learn 100x more by coding your own site. It's not extremely difficult either. Just use HTMLDog as a guide.

Alright, I'll keep you guys updated, but probably not in a while. I'm going to try it out, I'm going to keep the same domain since I got it for a year on Google, but I'll find another place where I can host a custom website. Thanks!

Good luck and have fun!
