Is topaz from steven universe a male or female?

apache attack helicopter

This is the most confusing part of the show.

An alien race that considers themselves all "female" and there is no male counterpart.
there's no male counterpart because gems are created by things called injectors

So how do they know what their genders are?

On reddit I'm getting a bunch of people telling me that a made up pronoun for this situation isn't better.

There is over loving 20 gender neutral pronouns used in real loving life. lol

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:List_of_protologisms/third_person_singular_gender_neutral_pronouns#cite_note-5

So how do they know what their genders are?
the type of rock they are? i'd guess that gender roles are different in gem society because there's only one likeness to human gender throughout but i'd say that their ""gender"" is determined by their gem. on homeworld, (mostly) all gems of a certain type serve a specific purpose based on their gem.
all of the "gemders" use the same pronoun, though.

or are you just going to ignore everything that's presented in front of you in favor of playing dumb and still trying to equate human gender roles with loving fantasy shapeshifting rock aliens?

Rock alien.

On a more serious view, I found it really weird for Topaz to have a feminine voice given how it could be really passable as a masculine figure.

canonically, all gems take on female pronouns when they emerge, but obvs they're just space rocks and they don't have peepees or anythin. amethyst has played around with having male forms (eg purple puma, who is referred to as "he"), but as far as we know, she's the only gem to have done this. in short, every gem is she/her because that's just how gems call each other. there are no 'male' or 'female' gems because they don't have loveual dimorphism. topaz is just butch.

not that it forgetin matters lmao

the crystal gems are genderless rock people who just happen to mostly resemble humanoid females and people are praising the show for it's depiction of women and lesbian relationships and and they refer to eachother by female pronouns but they're totally not women goys
