How the forget do you put that many hours into rotmg? Isn't it just a 2d dungeon diver?

Stupid post on my part, until I read the OP just before I posted I always thought Devil Daggers was a short arcade game that Badspot had just played over and over again.

I always thought Devil Daggers was a short arcade game that Badspot had just played over and over again.

It is.  There is a single achievement in the game which is unlocked by surviving for 500 seconds.  Out of over 100,000 players only 71 have unlocked it.  I am one of them.

according to my rotmg addicted friend, you're wrong

if you buy things, you're an idiot. while theorerically you could buy t8 armor which is nearly the best in the game, it's not worth it at all. what you actually want is potions, which can't be bought. the only thing maybe worth buying is pets but they aren't crucial in really any way
i may have forgotten large parts of his rant

this is wrong.
rotmg CAN be p2w, but i have never spent a single dime in the game and getting tops (wine cellar items [killing oryx]) is not as hard as you think. I played before kabam bought rights to the game so it was 100% easier, and p2w was nonexistent.
what turns a lot of people off from the game when they first start is thinking that you can rush through everything and get drops. being patient is important, as well as actually paying attention. knowing when enemies do hard-hitting attacks and avoiding it (everyone learns it from experience) is what seperates the better players to the less-experienced players.

that's a really strange looking background with how pixelated it is, while trying to be more realistic

it's a fun game that doesn't require much time

it's actually more like pay2lose lol
the only people who would actually buy equipment with money will lose it immediately, since they don't know the game well enough to stay alive
those who do know the game don't need the equipment as much to stay alive, but have plenty of it from their playtime

the only thing that paying for is actually useful is character slots and vaults, so you can manager inventories a lot easier (but not required, can just use multiple accounts)

and pets are nice, but it's not too hard to level them up ingame, money would just speed it up

it got sold to somebody else and is now less p2w than what kabam was pushing
