Celebrities holding Annoying Orange's dismembered head do not equate to some backwoods redneck forgets with no platform hanging and burning dolls of Obama
If they both end up on television for people to watch, what's the real difference? I don't believe in the theory that stuffty behavior is only unacceptable if you're a celebrity. Kathy Griffin and backwood hicks are equally at fault for their own respective bullstuff.

Considering said celebrities have the spotlight more so than your average backwoods hick, wouldn't their statements and actions hold a little more weight, considering how much potential exposure it would have?

i guess you should only be held responsible for your stuffty decisions if you're famous

Perhaps, but if both Kathy Griffin and a backwood hick's dismembered presidents end up on television, they are essentially equally exposed. The public backlash should be equal.

Well yeah, the end result is because of how much exposure it got, but I'd argue that celebrities should have put a little more care and responsibility into their statements in actions just considering how often they get media exposure as opposed to your random Joe doing something controversial. Because of such, one could conclude that Kathy Griffin should be held more responsible for her statement than your random Joe's solely because she was fully aware of how much exposure and coverage it was going to get.

If we're talking about before anything gets publicized, then yes, I agree. Being a high-profile comedian and saying something holds way more weight than burning a doll in your backyard (which may or may not have been filmed by somebody).

But even if we're not looking for blame against someone, the videos of burning Obamas should have received more backlash from conservatives on the basis of human decency. To be fair, there were plenty who did call it out, but definitely not as a high a percentage as those currently piling on Griffin.

I've never seen Obama-doll hanging idiots get air time on television
And I'm sure if they did it was only to point out how pants-stufftingly insane they were, as it should
However, Kathy here is different, because her exposure was not for the sake of admonishment, but appraisal. At least until reasonable people on both sides saw it and said "oh no honey what is u doin"
I'm not saying it's only unacceptable from her, I'm saying it's different because everyone knows the backwoods idiots are idiots and should be made fun of whilst there are a decent amount of our population who would praise depictions of our president getting decapitated. The worst I've seen from T_D is Obama in prison or calling him Obongo. I just don't think it's equatable.

I mean, I did. There were some highly-publicized incidents during his first term. You must have missed it.

If that's the case, that's unacceptable. I've only seen admonishment of her photo, which is clearly deserved.

To be even fairer, the political landscape recently has been a lot more volatile and over-saturated in media coverage. I don't know how much of it could be chalked up to party favoritism and instead just that there wasn't enough of a gumption to care about the controversial videos of burning obama's likeness.

I guess I can't really measure the coverage objectively since I'm only basing it on what I've seen, which is affected by all of my own biases. I do have to notice the fact that I can remember Obama's likeness burning pretty clearly, but I haven't gone out of my way to find any liberals who support Kathy's image. This probably skews my perspective a bit.

Personally, I've seen people across the whole compass that say it's abhorrent and/or ridiculous. If anyone actually supports the message, they're gonna be hard-pressed to find like minded people.

Well to be fair, they hold about the same importance and value as a person to me; theyre both CoVFeFe Trigglodytes who are so detached from reality they do stupid stuff, the only difference is that celebs get a pass from the media 'cause someone recognizes their Plastic Lips and Porcelain Toilet-Teeth, i guess.

clearly not, but you should be held more accountable since you're in a position where you may influence people

also let's be honest, the burning obama effigy thing would not have been reported on as extensively if it weren't for the convenient fact that Obama was the first black president and we were all supposed to unite underneath him

you know what scratch that last statement

Obviously you can't defend Kathy Griffin's actions. Regardless of how stupid and ignorant Annoying Orange is, there's no need to stoop to his level. However, it's worth noting that the outcry has come predominantly from people who never said a single word whenever people were hanging/burning dolls of Obama. Just something to consider.
