Author Topic: petition to make political/news threads outside of politics thread bannable  (Read 1002 times)

For news threads, can we make an exception for Jairo's
IMO his are the highest quality ones here

we're basically starved for content right now with silly joke threads popping up
no need to ban them.

this is off topic and

off topic as in not relating to the discussion of blockland

do you want tons of discussion to be missed and ignored? because thats how you get tons of discussion missed and ignored.

do you want tons of discussion to be missed and ignored? because thats how you get tons of discussion missed and ignored.
there's an entire thread dedicated to this stuff
this isn't discussion; at this point it's a fistfight over political views

^he's right

politics moves way too quickly to have it all in one thread. people make separate threads for large events because discussion can go on for pages and pages about that one thing, meanwhile seven other things have popped up that people would want to talk about, and there's no way to jam all that into a single thread. smaller stuff like politicians saying stupid stuff are put in the megathread because they don't warrant much discussion

it's easy for stuff like a show or a fandom to have a megathread because those are very focused topics that tend to have only a small number of things to actively talk about at any given time

at this point it's a fistfight over political views

they had fistfights in the continental congress fighting is nothing new

there's an entire (singular)  thread dedicated to this stuff

what about if the thread doesn't have a source or is blatantly biased like most of tony's threads?

megathreads are kinda stuffty. no deeper discussion can ever be had in it.

- you have a computer issue that you dont want anyone to reply to? post it in the computer megathread.
- you want people to discuss your issue with you and each other and have the topic never change? make a new topic.

what about if the thread doesn't have a source or is blatantly biased like most of tony's threads?
no different from the majority of political posts. only difference is that it's someone starting a discussion, not adding to one. ideally, you'd be like jairo and objectively present all the facts up-front, but people like tony are just looking to talk about stuff and i guess that's fine too, it just slants the discussion in a particular direction from the start and doesn't give anyone else the tools to approach the discussion with an informed opinion

still, i tend to resist the idea that people should be quarantined into megathreads, cus who gives a forget what people want to talk about? you don't have to be able to engage in every discussion here. for politics though, i do get that it's resulted in a much more contentious atmosphere, and that can really be a bummer to sit in

why is day discussion and the weird habits thread highlighted, they have nothing to do with politics or news
in fact you even missed some news threads? ok i guess it's about something else then but what

why is day discussion and the weird habits thread highlighted
they have nothing to do with politics or news
they're not silly joke threads and have actual discussion within them
