Ryde shuffles to the front of the truck, and takes the designator. "I'll take that.", he says, and sits down in a seat next to the front.

What the forget have I gotten myself into...

Norum sighs and reluctantly takes the gunner position and adjusts his earpiece, "Hello, radio check from Interrogative gunner. Do you copy?"

While waiting for a response, Norum inspects the gun to make sure he knows what does what, and looks for any spare ammo boxes. After his brief inspection, he would look ahead and announce the results if he sees what he can see from the gunner position.

The unit fits handily on the gun and is activated by a button on the grip.

The squad hears you. Burke is cringing. The convoy must be on another channel.

There is a sack with a heap of assorted magazines loaded with AP, and a few spare boxes of ammo for the HMG on the top of the vehicle.

You pull yourself up into the gunner's station. Before you is line of four- and six-wheeled armored vehicles, headed by the tank and another armored vehicle. The convoy is slowing.

"Shank One is breaking from the convoy and heading to the objective alpha, out,"

"Copy,"

"Devil, Hammer, hostiles in the open taking cover in the buildings surrounding the objectives,"

"Copy, Hammer, hold fire, out,"

Several vehicles, about a third of the convoy, start turning down another street.

"Shank Three, breaking for objective charlie,"

"Copy. Devil to all Shank Victors, cleared hot. The city is evacuated and we need those bridges. It doesn't matter how much you damage the buildings but do not damage the bridges,"

You see that the vehicles that have split have stopped further down the road. Armed men are pouring out of them and taking cover in the streets, and moving up.

Nevada makes sure her gear is in order.

You can hear Norum talk on the radio, as well as the convoy chatter from the vehicle radio. You have about half of your ammo remaining in your active belt. Everything checks out so far.

Ryde's eyes dart from building-to-building, tapping his foot nervously.

Norum grumbles half-audibly to himself and eyes the positions the enemies have taken up ahead. Having an itching feeling, he also checks around him in the buildings to the side and behind him to see if anyone has taken up positions there. If he spots anything, he would allow his eyes to fall past them and continue searching as if no one was there. Should he find anything, he would report it to the squad leader.

From inside the vehicle you do not see anybody. The buildings look as if they were abandoned not long ago. In fact they look untouched. The architecture and layout of the streets is familiar to Ryde.

You spot some people on the rooftops. They are exposed to you, and you can see them well. They have equipment just like Burke and Sauvageot. They are, in fact, friendly.

"Devil this is Hatchet Actual, how soon can Shank get here to push these bridges? We're running low on ammo here,"

There is a brief silence.

"Hatchet Actual, fifteen minutes, out,"

: "Hey Devil, where do you want Topside?"

"Topside wait one, we'll send you where we need you,"

In the distance you can hear explosions now, and some gunfire over the din of the convoy.

"Devil, Shank Two is transitioning on foot to objective bravo."

The convoy slows to a halt and stops on the roadway. Men begin pouring out of the vehicles and getting cover in the streets. The gunfire is closer now but you do not hear anyone say that they are engaged. The objective bridge cannot be seen from this road. Talk on the radio indicates it is around the corner and up the street.

Burke hops up in the vehicle.  He smashes his helmet with his fist, lowers his goggles and raises his balaclava. Sabine turns off the vehicle and hops out.

Best make sure you have what you need before you go.

Grabs his grenades, and ammo, before slipping on his respirator and hopping out, getting some cover.

Norum grabs his SAR and makes sure it's loaded with a mag + 1 of AP rounds. He also takes another 3 full mags of the same with him, tucking 1 in each back pocket, and the other one in his backpack. Next, he takes his T-159 and loads it with a mag + 1, and tucks another spare mag of that in his backpack as well. Finally, he takes a smoke, a flash and a frag grenade and stores them in his backpack, making sure they were firmly secured so as to not set them off. As soon as he's ready, he holsters his combat knife and pistol and jogs off to follow to where the group is gathering.

Nevada loads a fresh belt into her MG and makes sure that her pistol magazines have AP ammo loaded. After some shuffling around, Nevada hops off the truck with an extra (single-shot) grenade launcher with 3 reserve grenades in tow.

Ryde gets out of the truck and takes cover. While Nevada and Norum are exiting, the air is filled with a whistle, then a tearing scream and the earth explodes at the head of Shank Two's convoy in an instant. Shrapnel rips and screams past the truck. The armor of the truck stops any shrapnel. Ryde is safe as well. Burke is unscathed and some tiny pieces of shrapnel scratch Sabine's face but do not hurt her otherwise.

Radio chatter explodes through the radio in the seconds following the explosion. Calls for medical evacuations, wounded reports.

: "Check, check check, Hammer reporting that artillery shots splashing in the area of the bridges. They're shelling their own troops!"

"Devil to all Shank platoons. The enemy seems to be attempting to bring down the bridges with artillery. Counterbattery is on the way. Push to your objectives,"

Another salvo explodes in quick succession, but not within your view on the street.

"Topside, move to assist objective bravo!"

Sabine wants to push up to the bridge immediately. Burke wants to wait for the tank, and asks for the group's opinions.

Ryde lets out a quiet curse, before looking over his cover to look at the buildings, trying to spot some people in them.

Norum instinctively jumps to the right as the explosion hits, and sprints to catch up. "When could we expect the tank?"

"Okay, let's push up, hopefully the tank gets there soon after we do." Nevada says, readying her machine gun and shield.

There is nobody in the buildings immediately around you. You still cannot see the objective. The survivors of the attack are starting to sweep and secure them.

Norum instinctively jumps to the right as the explosion hits, and sprints to catch up. "When could we expect the tank?"

"Few minutes," Burke responds.

Sabine starts moving up, and Nevada follows. Burke caves to Sabine's initiative. The team moves up to the end of the street. Around the left corner is your objective bridge. You are surrounded by buildings, and there are cars within running distance that should allow you to advance towards your objective.

The group stacks against the corner of the building between you and your objective. You are closest to the east side of the bridge. To the west, about 100m away is the west end of the bridge and more featureless, brightly colored standard favela cookie-cutter dwellings. Sporadic gunfire can be heard from the riverfront buildings on both the east and west side of the river. There are Czech hedgehogs on the bridge.

"How are we goeeng to do thees?" Sabine asks.
