Author Topic: Computer's acting funny again  (Read 3180 times)

so this has been an issue for a while now but I've had trouble actually diagnosing it
considering I was looking to start modifying my computer with more RAM and hard drives and sound cards and all that I think now would be the appropriate time to look for help

There's a loud chugging noise coming from my computer. I just pulled it out from its spot on the floor and it wasn't a problem with the exhaust fan. Still, I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the fans in the computer.

I can't exactly pinpoint the sound within the computer, but it sounds like it's coming from about midway between the front and back of the tower, closest to the side that you would pull off to do modifications or to just look at the inside.

At the same time that's happening, whenever I play a game like ROBLOX for more than five minutes I'll notice the frame rate start to dip tremendously until it's at about 5-10 FPS and I have to either turn down the graphical quality or stop playing. It's got me thinking it has to do with the cooling unit for the graphics card, which I was also planning on replacing so hoo-hoo.

IDK am I right here? /discuss

Your cpu cooler fan is going out

either that or your GPU fans are going out, it could be either of the two

if I opened up the computer how would I tell which

also can I just say I searched CPU cooler fan on newegg
hoo
these things are scary

I looked in my specs and selected the one thing that had CPU in it so IDK if this makes sense but

"Intel® Core™ i5-3350P CPU @ 3.10GHz 3.10 GHz"

For a good replacement cpu fan, go with either one of these

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106250

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103107

Both of these come with thermal paste so you dont have to worry about that

Also to tell which sound is which, simply put your ear close to either your CPU and GPU and listen to which fan is making the noise. But in your case, I can almost garuntee it's your CPU fan

you dont have to take anything out of the computer to replace the cooler except for the broken cooler itself, should just be 4 screws in a circular, square, or rectangular pattern on the motherboard and once you have them out you can clean up the thermal paste and install the new cooler
dont do this unless youve got the new cooler on hand pl0x

it's changed from a chugging noise to a revving noise is that noteworthy

sounds like overheating
