Author Topic: drinking ethyl rubbing alcohol  (Read 6771 times)

see, most people would say drinking rubbing alcohol is damn stupid. and you would be right because most lab and medical alcohol is isopropyl. but the kind of rubbing alcohol I have at home is ethyl(ethanol) which is the same type of alcohol use in beverages.

my question is do you think it would be a good idea to dilute this and make it into a drink. I would be definitely getting alot more profit as bottles like these can go for 2 bucks.

my second question is what is the other 30% of the ethyl rubbing alcohol. is it toxic chemicals? or just water as a filler?

thanks for the insight you helped with the closure to my question

inactive Ingredients: Acetone, Denatonium Benzoate, Methyl Isobutyl Ketone, Water

Not stuff you want to be drinking. Denatonium Benzoate is a bittering agent, which means if you drink it, it's going to be extremely unpleasent.

forget me acetone god damnit

I mean... The acetone isn't good to drink but it's the Denatonium Benzoate that you really want to worry about. Even in extremely small, very diluted portions, it's unbearably bitter. It's specifically added so you can't make it into an alcoholic beverage.

don't listen to them, i once drank a bath tub full of industrial ethanol and had a great time

it also appears from my research that buying pure ehtyl alcohol is only sold to businesses and schools. i guess they don't want people having that strong of the substance on the streets

ITT: OP tries to make stuffty moonshine with rubbing alcohol.

almost all ethanol products on the market are denatured. denatured ethanol is ethanol that's been contaminated with trace chemicals rendering it unfit for consumption- perhaps it's too disgusting, but usually it's also outright toxic.

the reason these hard-to-remove chemicals are added? consumable alcohol gets alcohol tax.

ethyl alcohol is generally mixed with other stuff so that it poisons you if you drink it recreationally. this is the only way they can legally sell it on store shelves.

do you even know what moonshine is

Alcohol brewed outside of legal means, usually higher alcohol ratios

Alcohol brewed outside of legal means, usually higher alcohol ratios
the rubbing alcohol already *has* the alcohol
so if you were to make a drink out of it it wouldn't be brewing

Why would you even consider this?
