Author Topic: why are linux users the most friendy* loving pieces of stuff on the planet?  (Read 7159 times)

I only use Arch Linux :)

haha thatso nly ubuntu
actually it's from debian, first of all, and therefore debian-derived distros, such as ubuntu

emulation is not the same as having support for a filetype on an operating system.
I can see what you're trying to say here, but you haven't really worded it well. As already mentioned, Wine literally is a recursive acronym that states that it isn't an emulator. Also, all Linux distributions support the .exe file type in as far as storing them.

Therefore, there is support for the file type. It's just that Linux doesn't have native support for running .exe executables. However, the Wine project does do quite a good job at that.

that sounds so much harder than just using windows
Honestly, package managers are far superior to the crappy installers which you need to use to install anything on Windows. Installation, upgrading, and removal can all be done super quickly within a single terminal in one session. If you're a noob and have chosen a noob friendly distro, they tend to come with their own GUI software center things with big buttons, kinda like Steam but for more than just games.

what do you guys think about mint

so what is so special about arch Linux?
I've only used Linux for servers, and if I have to use a GUI based Linux instance (or mac) I only use the terminal

what do you guys think about mint

is good

i tend to use linux for programming stuff, there's like so many decent tools that you can download in the span of one command - i spend a lot more of my free time reading stuff off the web as opposed to playing games, so with that linux makes projects and regular usage smooth sailing

most of the time however i keep linux on virtual machines and windows as my mains because while i really enjoy linux, i still enjoy playing games off of steam (and would rather not deal with the trouble of dealing with games on linux - though i'll admit i'm not super informed and there's probably some good workaround somewhere)

in all honesty if you have more time to spend working on your computer and love doing it, linux is perfect

i also tend to use my raspberry pi for the free wolfram editor on there and the fact that you can carry it anywhere with a laptop given that you have a wifi connection and know how to set up a vncserver

Probably because if they're not obnoxious about it, you don't know they use Linux. My dad uses Linux, he's not obnoxious about it. Anyone who brags that they use a specific OS is generally being annoying and superior and should stop.

I think linux is just something for them to be superior about, not the cause.

good loving lord I had completely forgotten about that
thank you

* Shift Kitty SCREAMS

I took a Linux course in my first year of college to fast-track my knowledge on how it works so I could hit the ground running when I got into units that forced me to use it, and after like a month of classes the most evident thing I learned about Linux is that you're really just spending a massive amount of time doing incredibly simple tasks because "windoewz is for teh scrubz xDD 1337". I remember asking my tutor why x feature was so complicated and I think his actual response was something like "because clicking icons is lame"

As someone who studies and works in IT, as my father before me does and his father before him did, I really don't understand the "muh linux" mindset in the IT industry. Because if you actually have a certain amount of things you need to get done on a computer in a certain amount of time, Linux is like the worst loving option. It's like everyone's just bitter they got turned down for a job at Microsoft or something.

I need that 1fps boost in my matrix parsing

What's even worse are those linux elitists who gloat about how much better emacs or vim are compared to everything else.

ummmmmmmmmmmmm did you mean GNU/Linux? i think you meant GNU/Linux, because Linux is merely a part of it.

what are u a loving nerd
