My birthday happened about 3 days ago (the forums were down though). I got a Switch and some cash. I also got my permit just today. Been a pretty awesome week.

Dont wanna seem like an attention whore but holy cow did this get pushed down by news threads. Does anyone have some like driving tips? I'll be learning stick sometime soon.

Happy belated birthday! Enjoy your driving freedom!!

Don't listen to this tool.
What you gotta do is set it off in second and release the clutch as fast as possible.
If the engine starts making sounds of agonizing pain, then you're doing it right. Congratz you are driving a stick.

practise on a private road with the car, a lot if you can
starting off in anything but first is more than likely to stall the car so avoid that

what about starting off on a hill with a person up your ass

what about starting off on a hill with a person up your ass
hill starts are complicated; you have to hold the clutch at the biting point and push the brake down and then release the brake and the clutch slowly, then accelerate after lifting off the brake

the act of a hillstart is simply to allow the drive wheels of the car to be supported by the engine (rather than the brake), so when you take off the hand brake, instead of rolling back, the car remains where it is, allowing you to then move the car forwards.

i'm not sure if you've attempted a hill start but this is the best way to rollback into the car behind you.

first off, due to humans only having 2 legs, you don't want to be using the brake pedal at all, and be using the hand brake instead. this allows you to use the gas pedal and clutch pedal at the same time. provided the car is in gear, at this point you rev up the engine, release the clutch until you can feel the front wheels begin to pull (the car will move slightly as the wheels begin to support it's weight). now you release the hand brake and the car will start to creep forwards. at this point you can release the clutch further and provide more gas to move away faster. once you get good at this stuff you can ride the clutch and not use the hand brake at all.

if you have the ability to move the car without providing gas whatsoever (just using the clutch), you probably have some 2litre petrol thing or a diesel engine. most ordinary cars have to have their clutch and throttle combined together, otherwise they stall. also, modern cars have all sorts of fancy bullstuff like anti rollback (aka a hillholder), which means the car remains stationary on a hill even when the handbrake isn't activated. i would never trust this.

Nice, you got a switch! Be sure to get splatoon 2 c:

an easy way to get used to swapping pressure on clutch and gas is to start the car into 2nd gear and keep your foot on the clutch. That way you can get a feel of how much gas to use because the car wont start moving until you apply gas.

switch to doing first gear after because first gear takes less gas to get started. you'll usually put too much gas the first time and that makes the car jump. thats why i suggested to first practice starting in second gear.

or rev to 2.5-3k and shift normally. idk about you but for me (3.0L gas I6) shifting to 2nd from anything less than 2k puts it in a low rpm that lugs the engine; a 1.6 turbo'd gas I4 i drove needed to be revved even higher

guess it depends on the drivetrain, a diesel with more torque than hp or the gearing in a truck would probably allow much lower shift points

Happy belated birthday.
