Author Topic: BLF Parliament - MAXWELL IS PRIME MINISTER OF THE BLF  (Read 41516 times)

No stuffposts without representation?
Hello, citizens of the Blockland Forums! Would you like to represent your fellow Blocklanders in Parliament and really make a difference in your forums by enacting policies to the benefit of all? Well, that sucks, because none of the decisions here actually affect anything and this is just for fun. Wait, stuff, that was a terrible way to sell you on this. Just... uh... Anyway, in the BLF Parliament, you can join a political party (or don't!), campaign for said party (or don't!), vote in elections (definitely do that one, actually), and pass laws and acts (if you get elected!).

MPs are elected via party-list proportional representation, with votes taken from all forumers who bother to vote, even if they have no interest in actually being elected (ties will be decided with a coin flip). The party-list ranks members of the party, defining the order in which members will be elected. For instance, if a party wins 3 seats, the top 3 slots on their party list are elected. It is always recommended to have a longer party list than the number of seats you expect to win, as any further seats are forfeit. The list is submitted by the leader of the party, which is the first person to have joined that party. However, the leadership can change if the current leader resigns. After elections are over, MPs will take their seats, and a government must be formed. To form a government, at least half the seats in Parliament must vote to appoint a Prime Minister - to do this, it is almost always necessary for several parties to engage in coalition talks, with the largest party receiving the first opportunity in doing so. The Prime Minister is usually the leader of the largest party in the governing coalition. If a motion of no confidence passes, the PM is fired and the parties must either appoint a new PM, or call new elections. Once a government has formed, the Parliament can pass laws and acts until the next election. To do so, one must be proposed by an MP (just make a post), and seconded by another MP, and then Parliament will take a vote. Acts succeed if there are more Yea votes than Nay votes, while abstentions are ignored. Passed acts will receive a place in the OP! Please note that any act that might damage the electoral process might be vetoed by me.

Click here for an overview on how elections work.

A quick side note on independents: politicians can run without a party, and if they receive sufficient votes, they will receive a seat. However, any further votes for them are ignored.

Next election will occur THURSDAY, JULY 6.
Remember, you DO NOT NEED TO SIGN UP in order to vote, just if you want a chance at being elected.
Also, don't use alts you mongoloids.

Also I should mention that we don't need every party to be filled, and in fact it would probably be better if we have fewer but more populous parties. But that's not up to me ;)
