Author Topic: should the creator of a piece of media play a role in it if they want to  (Read 3429 times)

kinda stupid to suggest that all cases of creators inserting themselves into their work is detrimental to the quality of the work. theres definitely many more cases of that being true than false, but theres a nontrivial number of examples where it worked

yall from this day forward youre not allowed to contribute to your creations in any way

everyone knows you can't have a good movie if the director puts himself in as an actor
quentin tarantino always fits perfectly in his movies

Quentin Tarantino just puts himself in movies as an excuse to say monday

what about NEIL BREEN

what about NEIL BREEN

I'm trying to find the argument against this and I can't find it

[is god]

IMMA GONNA SHEWT DIS DAMN CAH AWL FULLA HOLES

I'm trying to find the argument against this and I can't find it
the argument against it is that it's a loving stupid idea

I think there's a little bit of confusion here

I'm totally for creators taking part in their creations so long as it doesn't constitute self-insertion
someone I know who's an actor tho didn't want to take part in a play she was directing because she thought that it degraded the work regardless

I just want to know where that belief comes from

that belief comes from too many terrible examples of mary sue (warning: tvtropes link) happening, intentionally or unintentionally. you can find this most evident in the resident evil movies which were just absolutely loving terrible cause the director or something had his wife play the lead female character and its painfully obvious.
