Author Topic: Got my first speeding ticket.  (Read 3330 times)

So today I was driving to work and I was getting off this avenue that's like 45mph or so for most of it and I ended up being pulled over. The officer said I was going 63 in a 30mph zone and I was pretty shocked. Naturally I think I'm forgeted. Since this is my first offense I really hope I can plea it down to something a bit less severe. I'm not getting much work atm and don't really have much money.

Anyone else here have experience with tickets? I'm in New York State by the way.

you could probably appeal if you were going 10 mph over the speed limit and got a hefty fine for it. however, if you're going twice the speed limit, i don't think they're going to cut you slack.

Yeah I'm really worried, even if the speed limit was 45 or I was going a bit slower I could never prove it. But I do have family members who have gotten things like going 120 in a 55 pleaded down so if I could just get this down to 59 it'd be a big difference.

i got a ticket the night before my birthday for an expired license plate. that was my first one ever which will probably be around 135 dollars (hopefully)

i dont have that money either, and they took forever to post it so im about to pay it a couple days before my deadline :))

i got a 3-point ticket ($185) for having my traction control off (legit official reason; classified as "reckless driving") only 10 minutes after being told i did nothing that deserved a ticket. im 100% sure he realized he was behind on his quota so he changed his mind. he said i would get some form in the mail that'd tell me how i could get the points taken off, but i never got it. i really cant complain-- ive gotten away with purposely drifting through an intersection right in front of a cop (during a thunderstorm so i couldnt tell at first lol), among other things. never got a speeding ticket or any other kind of ticket tho

^^^ also i've gotten off with a warning for riding with expired plates lol albeit they were less than a week past

that's in a 55 tho. which is like the max speed limit outside of divided highways
u were in a 30, which implies a residential road, or at least where there's some kind of risk at higher speeds than the posted limit

sometimes between april and august I get pulled over for that. cus the forgetin month sticker says april. but it actually doesn't expire until august. so I just show them the registration and it's all good
haven't gotten pulled over for it this year though

1 time I got a speeding ticket, I think I was going 90 in a 70 zone... kind of lame reason but it was only about $100 so not too bad, considering I had a steady job.

was it the highway patrol? those boys don't forget around. my cousin and i got pulled over just because we avoided a pothole and tried to get us for reckless driving.

i got a warning once from speeding trying to catch up to my dad in his car after we pulled after a gas station but i only got a

I got a ticket several years ago when I was either 16/17 and it was for going 95 in a 60. I paid $250 for it, and that was after the cop wrote my ticket down to 75 in a 60. If it wasn't for that guy I would have had my license revoked and like a $1000 fine. So really I wouldn't worry too much about your ticket, on top of that a-lot of cities offer payment plans for your tickets. You just have to arrange it.

I haven't sped since that day. Most I'll go is 10 over, and that's on the freeway. 5 over in town.

But mine was far worse than yours and you almost got your license revoked.

I sound royally forgeted here. I was really hoping someone could say something reassuring

i knew a guy who got a ticket similar to yours he only had to take the fine and a driving class

i've somehow never gotten a ticket, which is kinda amazing considering my checks almost all the boxes of being a cop magnet
